ABC Sound Book

I am absolutely excited to share with you our version of an ABC Book. Our focus will be on words that Meghan can say (or at least have a consistent attempt). With apraxia, our focus has to be on speech, not on more "educational" activities. (We still practice shapes, numbers, letters, and colors, but they happen more naturally than planned speech play.) Speech has to be part of every activity, so when we do something special together, I prefer to plan a bit as to how I can incorporate words Meghan can attempt or say. Crafts, even simple gluing crafts, are a great way for us to practice words while learning about other things too.
I was inspired by others, but have changed this to be a speech activity. Here are some great inspirations.
Teachingtinytots has started an ABC book
Justforfun a different type of ABC book
Notimeforflashcards has a letter of the week and ABC book
First I made a list of the alphabet and included words Meghan says for the appropriate letters.
I used Google's Images to find pictures of words Meghan says. I created a document of Meghan's word pictures and printed it. Then I cut the pictures out, cropping some.

Next I decided we would begin with B words since she has so many B words. I cut a B from blue (another word) paper and gathered the other materials (pictures from Google Images, paper, glue, B).
I was quite surprised that Meghan identified the B without any prompting. We glued the B. She knew it was blue. Then we looked at all the pictures and identified them. Then she got to choose a picture and I put glue on it. Then she glued it down and said the word again. We can use each completed letter page for word and letter practice, too.
Next time I might try to guide the placement more so that when we bind it, we can see all the pictures, but I was pleased with our B. I'll be posting Meghan's other letters, too.
(Just a note: After a late night, I was putting Meghan to bed. Typically we read a book or two, read from her children's Bible, and pray before bed. When I attempted to skip reading, I was surprised to hear Meghan say /b/. I thought she wanted a book, but she wanted a Bible story. She has been making attempts like that a lot lately, without prompts!)

What a lovely teaching/learning idea...it's no small wonder Meghan is interested in being read to.

I love your snowman creation! and seeing moms doing things like that with their wee ones.

The baby picture comparison post is darling...such cute babies. :)

Thank you for the thoughts and prayers for my dad and family you left on Apronstrings...

What a neat idea. Nick's cousin made similar books for all the kids for Christmas about 4 years ago. I think she cut the pictures out of catalogs along with printing out some. It is a great teaching tool.

Yeah!!! Meghan, it sounds like she is making porgress. I am always amazed when they do something new... Yesterday we were watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Nater said "Chi Ba Ba"" It was obvious what he was trying to say. :)
