Washington, D.C. (Part 2)

As I said in the first post, we went to Washington, D.C. on Friday and spent the night. Saturday morning we enjoyed a hearty breakfast at the hotel. We encouraged the children to stuff themselves since we weren't certain when we'd have lunch. (Meghan would like you to know that she ate three cheese omelettes and more.)
We returned to DC on the Metro and headed to the White House. As I offered to take a photo for a small group, Derek asked the gentleman if he was Jon Crispin. I thought Derek must have known him from college based on what I heard of the conversation. As it turns out (in case you are not in the know), Derek didn't know him personally, but recognized him as a Big 10 sportscaster as well as a former Penn State basketball player. (Yes, Derek is a true Penn State fan...he doesn't just watch football. If he sees PSU ladies' volleyball or men's wrestling on television, he'll watch it.)
Meghan took this one.

Washington, D.C. (Part 1)

The children had a teacher in-service day on Friday. Derek took the day off, and we went to Washington, D.C.

We told the children of our plans a week or so ago. They were beyond thrilled. Though we go to family camp every year, we don't do much vacationing (beyond visiting family).

When I opened the garage door yesterday morning it was sleeting. By the time we left, large and fluffy snowflakes were falling. It turned to rain at some point along the trip, but the roads were not concerning.

We drove to Greenbelt and took the Metro in from there. It was Esther's first subway ride. (We went to NYC a couple months before Esther was born.) It was raining/sleeting as we walked to the American Museum of Natural History. (I'm really pleased to say we brought home both of our umbrellas.)
